Shifting Calories Diet - Learn How You Can Eat and Still Lose Weight With the Shifting Calories Diet

Although a lot of us may have heard the popular dieting habit nowadays called the Shifting Calories Diet, most of us may not be aware of the how this works physiologically. To have an inkling on how this diet has been effective, we have to have an idea first how the traditional dieting failed to cure obesity.

The rationale of the traditional 'starvation' diet is simply 'eat less and lose weight'. This may sound correct literally and superficially. However, losing or gaining weight does not depend solely on the individual's type and amount of caloric intake.


This is because of changes that take place in the body during a starvation diet. When the body undergoes starvation, it senses that it's under attack, and it acts to protect its stores of fat, which it holds onto so that it has food in time of emergencies.
Seeing this starvation diet as an emergency, the body lowers its metabolism rate and begins storing as much food as possible as fat. Thus, more food than ever before turns into fat, while the body chooses instead to consume muscle tissue for its energy.

This physiological adaptation of the calorie-deprived body will end up in water loss as the body attempts to flush out toxic metabolic by-products. This water loss would seem loss of weight at the outset. But this is only temporary as water weight can be regained after resuming normal diet. Further, it can also cause more weight gain in the form of fat- losing general muscle mass at the same time.

Calorie shifting diets take a different tact. In this method, you constantly change the amount of food and calories you take in, and yet maintain proper nutritional balance in your meals in order to avoid the muscle loss associated with traditional dieting.

By splitting meals up into 4 or more small meals a day and varying the types of food eaten, you can allow your body to burn excess fat while keeping to a healthy amount of food intake daily. You can eat as much as you want at each smaller meal, but you should stop while still just a little bit hungry. This is the key to the success of the shifting calories diet.


As with most healthy diets, the shifting calories diet approach will benefit from having an overall healthy lifestyle, with moderate amounts of exercise. There is no reason to go overboard with it, especially at first. Even a short walk every day can work wonders combined with the shifting calories diet approach.
Traditional starvation dieting just doesn't work. Worse, it can cause more harm than good, and is most definitely NOT good for your body. By using the shifting calories diet, you can burn off that excess fat (not muscle) and keep eating the things you normally would in plentiful amounts
